A Night Out for Lighting Experiments and More Floating

On Thursday, May 17th, Dree Cashmere and Mary Sarsfield went out with me to do some shooting on top of the Motor City Hotel. We didn’t know we had to have permission to do this and lasted almost an hour before security caught up to us and told us to leave. And to think, none of the shots include the hotels colorful lights!

The idea for this shoot was very loose. Experimenting for the second time with floating people using stools, a tripod, and a single flash at dusk, I just wanted to have some fun shots involving two very different people. As the night progressed things got more interesting when we ran into an owner of a bar and got to use his motorcycle as a prop.

That girl in the last shot we just found walking past us… I have no idea who she is.

Urban Exploring #3 – A Study of Composites and Color Value

All of these images, besides some of the people in them, were taken on April 12th at four different locations in Detroit. Whatever you do, don’t visit the first image. Thank you Mary Sarsfield and Ryan Cunningham for being so fun to hang out with on this one!

In this mass-edit-adventure (after exploring the Fisher Plant with Farzin Montazersadghwant today) I wanted to push the boundaries and see how far I could control lighting after a photo is taken. These images are intended to surpass “reality” and work towards a focused series of composites on a secret project with another artist coming soon.
