the work of jordan ewert
I am primarily interested in photography that sends a message, whatever that may be. The images I take all deal with psychology to some degree. After an image is taken I focus on digital manipulation, which can vary from simple color adjustments to digital painting hybrids to photo composites. In regards to my open and closed series I often reflect on the dark side of human nature with the masquerade of something visually stunning or beautiful. I’m not interested in taking pretty pictures of flowers and landscapes. Even if an image looks aesthetically pleasing it’s not good enough. It must have a deeper conceptual meaning.
I was born in Osaka, Japan on December 9th, 1985 due to the fact that my parents were doing missionary work. My father was a pastor and my mother was a teacher. When we moved back I was bounced around Illinois for awhile until I went to high school in Austin, MN in 2000. In 2004, my senior year, I was nominated for Artist of the Year. After high school I attended Riverland Community College in the same city and received my Associates Degree. In 2006 I moved to Spring Arbor, MI to major in graphic design. It was in this year when I received my first serious digital camera, a Canon 20D, and began experimenting as much as possible with photography as an art form. In 2007 I transferred to UW-Stout and decided to major in studio art so I could understand more of the fine arts background while learning software and the technical know-how on my own through various tutorials. In 2008 I started my own company, Jordan Ewert Photography, for senior portraits and weddings. My true passion, however, remained in the arts and I felt the need to excel in more advanced photo retouching and fine art and commercial photography. In the Spring of 2010 with a BFA in Studio Art from UW-Stout and am currently a freelance photographer and retoucher.
